Inspiring Video Shorts Attract Record Interest

An inspiring series of five video shorts about the people AFG supports and the staff who look after them has captured the imagination of AFG’s social media viewers – attracting an unprecedented 50,000 plus hits across our social media platforms as well as positive comments.

The camera follows around several supported people and their support workers for the videos –   Supporting Linda, Supporting Skye and Vicky, Supporting Alex, Supporting Kevin and Supporting Chris.

Getting under the skin of why support workers get so much enjoyment out of their jobs, they record the special relationship which they build with the people they support.

For example, Skye and Vicky live in their own apartments in Liverpool. Tom and Tino are young support workers starting their careers in mental health support. They are supporting Skye and Vicky in their day to day lives and ensuring they have someone there when they need to talk. Although Tino and Tom’s backgrounds are very different, with no previous experience in support work, both have become vital supports for Skye and Vicky.

AFG Talent and Recruitment Lead Sean McGrann said: “What we’ve tried to achieve with these video shorts is to capture the very special relationship that grows between the people we support and our support workers. It’s the first time that we’ve set out to do this.

“We also want to show people in our local communities that they can also become support workers, if they demonstrate AFG’s  values. We hope that we can produce the next Gemma, Jake or Tom – supporting people in their local communities and being proud of the work they do.”
