New ‘dynamic specialist service’ in Liverpool needs support workers
The transformation of a Liverpool care hub, which will allow people with learning disabilities to live within the local community, opens shortly and needs full and part-time support workers.
Naylorsfield and Hartsbourne, in the Belle Vale area of Liverpool, is a new eight-bedded Residential Service catering for people with complex needs within mental health and learning disability whilst adopting a positive behaviour framework.
The investment is providing a complete refurbishment of the 8-bed centre, including decorating, new carpet and flooring, new bathroom suites, kitchens and furniture. But the transformation is about much more than upgrading the fixtures and fittings.
The centre will become a model for ‘step down’ care – allowing people to ‘step down’ from a hospital setting when they are ready to live more independent lives.
It will help free up valuable hospital beds, relieving some of the pressures facing the NHS and cutting costs. The council and CCG have joined forces with AFG, which will run the centre and provide a range of services for people with learning disabilities and mental health issues.
Naylorsfield and Hartsbourne consist of two bungalows, which have previously been used for short-term accommodation and respite. AFG has been involved in the design of the new centre to help create a layout that is tailor-made for the people who will use the service. Crucially, the views of service users and their families have been considered as well.
AFG Registered Manager for Naylorsfield and Hartsbourne Lee Monaghan said: “This is a new dynamic specialist service. We’re looking for full and part time support workers who want to be a part of a new exciting project to bring people who need this type of support back into a community where they can reintegrate back into society whilst having the catered support they need.”
AFG CEO Ian Pritchard is pictured with Regional Director Kathy Farmer when the services were being refurbished.
