Steve Porter, Director for Learning Disabilities

I joined AFG in Spring 2019 as the Director for Learning Disabilities.

I am Liverpool born but I haven’t worked or lived there for 30 years – working in the South East of England and Scotland as a senior manager in Local Authority and NHS services. This included five years as a senior inspector for those services, and publishing improvement reports on behalf of the Scottish Government.

I have worked mostly in adult social care but also in supporting children and families. It is great to be returning to my first passion – supporting people with a learning disability to have the same opportunities, as far as possible , including in the decisions we make, the life we want to lead and the people we want to love.

My role on the Executive Team is to try to make that happen and to develop AFG to be the best it can be, with support from our staff. In my spare time, I watch football and make music using only samples.
