Blackburn supported living celebrates first anniversary

Bracken Heights staff and residents in Blackburn celebrated their first anniversary with a tombola, home-made cakes and refreshments on offer.

The nine flats at Bracken Heights are now fully occupied.

Area Manager Lynn Mitton said: “We invited our neighbours from Balmoral Close to thank them for their patience during the two-year build project. We also explained what we do, showed them around an empty flat and hopefully allayed any concerns they may have had.  Those who attended really appreciated the invite and brought us a box of chocolates.”

Nearby Albany Heights, which opened in January 2019, supports four people – with a fifth person due to move there in July. These flats have already been oversubscribed.

The oldest tenant between the two blocks of flats is 90 and the youngest aged 18. There are nine supported living flats, with a choice of one or two bedrooms. All the people we support have single tenancies.

Lynn added: “We have all worked extremely hard, working collaboratively to get the flats ready with Hilldale Housing Association and Blackburn with Darwen Council. Team leaders Dan Batley, Marcus West and Fiona Williams and all the support workers deserve a pat on the back for the fantastic job they are doing in ensuring this new way of working in Blackburn is a success.”
