Alternative Futures Group – Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement
Modern day slavery is a global problem which is estimated to be worth some US $32 billion per year. The Modern Slavery Act 2015 (“the Act brings together legislation relating to trafficking and slavery – which includes servitude and forced labour) is relevant to organisations that supply goods and services and have a minimum total turnover (global) of £36 million per year.
Under the above Act all large companies such as ours are required to provide a statement on our position with regard to modern slavery and what we are doing as an organisation to prevent it happening.
Alternative Futures Group acknowledges the provisions of the Act and in this statement confirms that due to its structure, regulation, and robust process, that slavery and human trafficking is not taking place in any of its supply chains or in any part of its own business
Alternative Futures Group is a Charity and private limited company providing care and support to vulnerable people in the UK. As such it is regulated by Companies House and the Charity Commission. At the apex of the company are its trustees who oversee its governance procedures and delegate responsibilities to subordinate committees and the Chief Executive Officer. The CEO is supported by the Executive Management Team and ongoing delegations of authority are allocated in accordance with the Scheme of Reservation and Delegation. The governance structure and performance are further strengthened by the Standing Financial Instructions.
Alternative Futures Group does not carry out work outside of the UK, nor does it seek to procure employees, supplies or services from outside the EU. Its supply chains are procured in accordance with the Scheme of Reservation and Delegation and overseen by the Head of Procurement and Director of Finance. Alternative Futures Group is governed by UK Law and as such is committed and ensures that all employees are paid the national minimum wage. Alternative Futures Group also operates a whistleblowing process whereby staff can blow the whistle if they have concerns over slavery and trafficking and staff can seek advice from senior officers should they have any concerns.
In view of the various checks and balances, the robust procurement mechanism, the whistleblowing process, and also the nature of the work undertaken, Alternative Futures Group believes that slavery and human trafficking is not taking place within the company or its supply chains.
