Recruiting The Best

Providing the right kind of person-centred care really depends on having the very best people for the job.  That is why our Regional Resource Leads have been busy building links, raising AFG’s profile and finding us the best staff to ensure that we continue to provide an excellent service to the people we support.

In Merseyside and Greater Manchester, Sean McGrann has continued to organise sector based work academies. These are two-week training programme to prepare people for work before interview with us – in partnership with local Jobcentres. Simon Pownall has been assisting Sean with this.

In Lancashire, Simon has been building links with the local Jobcentre Plus. These relationships are important as we are creating our own PET (pre-employment training) courses. We need Jobcentre Plus support to refer their clients onto these programmes. Simon has also held meetings with Ingeus, Peopleplus, Vedas and the National Careers Service to tap into the Work Programme and Health and Work Programme. This is generating additional applicants.

In Cheshire and Wirral, Sarah Cole has attended Jobcentre Plus events, engaged with the education sector, including attending Chester University careers fest, and a student event at Riverside College. At Riverside we delivered a presentation to students studying Health and Social Care to put AFG on the map and gain interest in our current vacancies. The region has held two successful Team Leader Assessment days and delivered recruitment training to Support Workers wanting to get more involved in recruitment as part of their development.
