Rochdale Supported Living Staff Go ‘Above and Beyond’
Staff at Mountain Ash Rochdale supported living received £100 of shopping vouchers from Alternative Futures Group CEO Neil Campbell for “the outstanding work of the team” – supporting service user Carla Gardiner in response to a life-threatening condition.
Their award follows the receipt of a letter from Carla’s mother Elizabeth to AFG’s CEO asking that Jade Higson, Lynne Didsbury, Sue Brown, Cassie Hooley and Ziggy Ahmed be recognised for their ‘above and beyond efforts’ during a very challenging time.
Elizabeth wrote: “They responded to a life-threatening condition with speed and looked after Carla as though she was a member of their own family. Without their care the outcome could have been so different. Carla has made a remarkable recovery.”
Elizabeth praised the support given to Carla’s parents both before and after Carla was rushed to hospital: “They were thoughtful, caring and supportive to Carla, her family and their colleagues, and keen to be updated on how Carla was progressing.”
After Carla was released from hospital, the care team continued to give brilliant support – monitoring her condition carefully. Cassie was on night-shift and had the presence of mind to call paramedics when Carla’s condition was causing concern.
Elizabeth added: “The support and care shown by this team who know and understand Carla and her family is what we have become accustomed to over the years. The team give more than a job description requires. It is not just a job to them.”
Neil Campbell said: “I am delighted to be here personally thanking you, the Mountain Ash team, for your outstanding professional work on behalf of AFG. You truly have gone the extra mile and it is very much appreciated. Every day support staff like you go above and beyond what is required of them because you care so much which is the essence of the AFG spirit.
Support worker Sue Brown added: “Mountain Ash is such a friendly house. We really enjoy working here because everyone mucks in. It’s got a real team spirit.”
Mountain Ash provides supported living accommodation in Rochdale, catering for a range of physical and mental disabilities.
