‘Huge insight’ gained from work placement

There’s nothing like seeing something for yourself to truly understand it – which is what Health and Social Care student Adam Buck did, with the support of Alternative Futures Group’s Andy Wood.

Lancashire Risk & Governance Lead Andy learned that Adam was doing his Level 3 Health & Social Care studies at Runshaw College in Leyland.

“Adam  is hoping to have a career as a Paramedic and was looking for a suitable and meaningful placement to help in this area of study.

“I talked to Adam about what AFG does, how we do it and the wide range of support provided.  With the help and support of the Lancashire regional management team, I secured 10 days placement for Adam. He visited services, spoke with service users, operational managers and support staff. He also visited Head Office and Regional offices to learn about how a company provides support to operational services.”

“Thanks to AFG, Adam has been able to gain invaluable experience and knowledge about the social care sector and how we interact with external agencies.  I wish him all the very best for the future.”

Adam, who is studying Level 3 Extended Diploma Health and Social Care, said: Thanks to Andy I was able to do my work placement with AFG. During my time at AFG I visited many services all of which were exceptionally well managed. The passion of team leaders and support workers was incredible.

“Andy has really opened my eyes and given me a huge insight into how AFG is run. I would like to thank everyone who helped me on my work placement and especially to Andy for organising it and providing me with such a good experience.”
