Somerset House’s Growing Success
Service users from Somerset House in Ashton-under-Lyne have been praised by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) for their gardening skills.
Following an RHS visit to Somerset House last August, they received an ‘Advancing’ award from them at the In Bloom Gardening Awards in Southport earlier this week.
AFG Team Leader Andrea Doherty said: “We have progressed from ‘Thriving’ to ‘Advancing’ in the awards which is wonderful. The awards are held in conjunction with the RHS which came to judge our garden at the beginning of August. They were surprised to see the garden looking so colourful, thriving and boasting so many varieties of flowers and plants despite the long hot summer.”
Somerset House has entered the In Bloom awards for about five years, in conjunction with housing provider New Charter which enters Somerset House into the competition.
“Our service users take great pride in their garden and have introduced vegetables including Michael’s famous spuds. We’re very proud of them all.”
