AFG makes a positive difference with Warrington Open Day
Alternative Futures Group has donated £125 raised from their open day to Myndful, a mental health charity based in Warrington.
Former Warrington Mayor, and now MP for Warrington South Faisal Rashid, formally opened the fun-filled event which included a Tombola, raffle, a poetry reading by a service user, a cake sale, bingo, and games for all ages
AFG team leader Kirsty Dovaston said: “The day was open to anyone who wanted to attend. People from the community, service users, former staff, family members, friends and others joined in.”
The DJ Booth gave their time free of charge and donated a four-hour free prize for a private DJ session. Magician Brad Bennett Magic was a big hit with everyone.
Generous donations were made by Daresbury hotel, Chelsea Leanne at Lush Locks and 4T’s brewery. Service users also donated books and DVDs, and family and friends volunteered their time and gifts. Both myndful and Warrington Voluntary Action attended – offering advice to anyone who wanted to access their services. The Grange Sports and Social Club kindly volunteered the use of their function room and bar for the event.
Kirsty added: “We will definitely be linking up with Myndful in the future. We were delighted that our local MP gave up his time to open the event. It was a great opportunity to bring the people whom we support together, and we had a fantastic day with them. I’d also like to thank colleague Kayleigh Bell for all her hard work and liaising with people that helped the day along. We’re already planning for our next one!”
Mark Moran from myndful said:
“It was an honour to share time with some great people. I was humbled by the effort you went to – sharing the message how important having positive mental fitness is in our lives. Seeing some of the people whom you support in attendance too makes it all worthwhile. Everyone was equal.”
“You are a credit to AFG and should be proud of your achievements. If one person raised a smile for a minute, taking their mind off their problems then you changed a life yesterday. Keep having a positive impact. Thank you once again for letting us be a part of it.”
